In some Seattle neighborhoods nearly every other house has a lace-leaf Japanese maple growing alongside the entry walk; unfortunately the vast majority of them are in dire need of a haircut! Beneath the dense masses of red leaves a stunning framework of twisting branches begs to be revealed! With a little attention and care we can give these trees a chance to shine winter, spring, summer and fall.

Next we thin the tree's living canopy, starting with crossing branches and lengthy sprouts. Our goal is an even, open, branching network that compliments the underlying shape of the plant. After bud break in spring we will do one more minimal thinning to finalize a delicate veil of leaves which afford glimpses of the underlying branching structure of the tree.

I have begun pruning maples for the fall and winter dormancy period. I charge my standard rates for this work and can complete a fall pruning of the "average" tree in 3-4 hours (though time varies considerably depending on the density and size of each tree). Pruning can be finalized in the spring with a 1-2 hour return touch-up visit. If you would like to schedule a pruning date please fill out the contact us form.
